Summary of the proposal : The flexibility of the peptidic scaffold can play a crucial role in determining the formation and geometry of different metal ion complexes in solution and thus, of their properties. Recent results in our group show how peptides with similar amino acid sequences but different degrees of flexibility form different Cu(II) complexes. The aim of this short visit is to explore the use of Isothermal Titration Calorimetry to study and determine the enthalpic (ΔH) and entropic (ΔS) components associated to the Cu(II) binding to these different peptides. The group of Dr. Rafel Prohenshas strong expertise in the application of this technique to study metal binding, both in chemical and biological systems. The results obtained will give us an important insight into the impact of the peptidic scaffold flexibility in metal coordination.
