Valencia UCIM - Two-dimensional Electrophoresis -The major source of error in a 2-D experiment is gel-to gel variation. To eliminate this , an internal pooled standard should be run on all gels within an experiment. -The same internal standard is run on all gels within an experimental series thereby creating an intrinsic link across all gels. -Normalization of the internal standard across gels allows the ratio of relative expression of the same protein across gels to be compared directly, separating gel-to gel variation from biological variation. -Even small differences in expression levels can be determined by comparing the ratio obtained from one fluorescent-labeled sample directly with another. Valencia UCIM - Confocal microscopy A confocal microscope creates sharp images of a specimen that would otherwise appear blurred when viewed with a conventional microscope. This is achieved by excluding most of the light from the specimen that is not from the microscope’s focal plane. The image has less haze and better contrast than that of a conventional microscope and represents a thin cross-section of the specimen. Thus, apart from allowing better observation of fine details it is possible to build three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions of a volume of the specimen by assembling a series of thin slices taken along the vertical axis. Valencia FIHGU - Pharmacogenetic-pharmacokinetic laboratory Pharmacogenetic research is a promising field of pharmacology which aims to achieve individualized medicine. In this regard there are several examples that are being used currently such as KRAS mutations and cetuximab efficacy, IL28b and peginterferon-γ efficacy, CYP3A5 and tacrolimus pharmacokinetic, CYP2C19 and voriconazol or clopidogrel pharmacokinetic..etc. Thus, pharmacogenetic laboratory has an equipment of DNA and RNA analyzers which allows to detect several single polymorphisms mutations, copy number, deletions, insertions and a variety of DNA-RNA abnormalities which are related with a change of response/toxicity of several drugs. The Valencian Biobanking Network Services Platforms The Valencian Biobanking Network (VBN), promoted by the Directorate General of Health through the Centre for Public Health Research (CSISP), has been created as an initiative of cooperation and coordination between authorized biobanks in the Region of Valencia. One of the main objectives of VBN is to identify and develop a mass of biological samples of interest for researchers and to increase the accessibility to biological samples by research groups. The network also offers four service platforms to support research to strengthen biomedical research excellence in the Region of Valencia: 1. Hosting and treatment of biological samples service platform; 2. Immunohistological studies service platform; 3. Genetic studies service platform; 4. Studies of high-performance service platform. :http://www.csisp.gva.es/web/biobanco/redvalencianabiobancos View information
