Biobank La Fe belongs to the Biobank Network of Valencia, as such, it storages and custodies collections of biological samples linked to data (epidemiological, clinical, genetic, environmental, donor´s habits, etc.) that are relevant to biomedical research. Some of the collections are unique nationwide and internationally, being the University Hospital La Fe a reference hospital for certain pathologies.
Biobank La Fe has some of the largest and most important collections nationwide of steatosic livers, human hepatic cells, DNA and microsomal samples of normal and pathological tissue. Moreover, it has the most extensive and complete serum bank of coeliac patients in the European Community.
Researchers consider Biobank La Fe as a national reference for studies of Minimal Residual Disease in neuroblastoma, a project coordinator for the creation of the European neuroblastic biobank and host the rare disease Biobank CIBERer.
Description:
This unit is essential for biomedical research since it makes available a large number of quality human samples. These are correctly registered and stored in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for reception, storage and transfer of biological samples, thus facilitating the exchange among Biobank and hospitals, Research Centers, Universities, etc., and fosters multicenter research projects.
It can be highlighted the quality, volume and variety of samples, and the associated offered services to perform certain determinations and purification techniques of DNA/RNA samples.
For reception, storage and transfer procedures of biological samples, Biobank La Fe is equipped with the most advanced technology regarding cooling and extraction systems:
· Automated DNA-RNA Extraction-Qiacube
· Freezers -80 º C, -20 º C
· Refrigeration systems
