CIPF will bring together top experts in the therapeutic chemicals field
• This event will take place from 18th to 21st September
• It will favour interaction between academic research and the pharmaceutical industry
The Príncipe Felipe Research Centre, will host the 16th National Meeting of the Spanish Society of Medicinal Chemistry from 18th to 21st September. This initiative intends to diffuse this type of multidisciplinary research work among the Spanish scientific community, facilitate interaction between the academic world and the pharmaceutical industry, and help develop translational research.
This congress is organized by SEQT, the Spanish Society of Medicinal Chemistry, a non-profit, multidisciplinary organization which intends to embrace all those professionals, firms and organizations whose activity is related with Spanish pharmaceutical R&D. SEQT´s purpose is to help Medicinal Chemistry to develop by organizing scientific meetings to not only encourage professional contacts at national and international levels, but to contribute to training professionals in this particular field. Given its scientific relevance, this event has been included in the activities organized during the International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC2011).
Dr. Antonio Pineda-Lucena, Principal Investigator of CIPF´s Structural Biochemistry Laboratory, is organizing this congress, which will bring together top experts in the medicinal chemistry field for this 3-day event. Likewise, the Organizing Committee of this congress is formed by researchers belonging to CIPF, the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), Valencia University and “La Fe” Healthcare Research Institute.
This congress will be attended by more than 100 people, and intends to become an encounter forum for specialists. During this event, professional academic and industrial researchers specialized in different branches like chemistry, pharmaceuticals and biology will meet to debate the latest advances in the discovery of drugs and to offer answers to some of the challenges that this type of research faces today.
This congress aims to cover research into subjects such as designing new therapeutic agents (small molecules, antibodies, biological drugs, etc.); new biochemical strategies (incorporating new technologies to discover drugs, e.g., the “omics” techniques); or the discovery of new approaches to study highly complex therapeutic targets (protein-protein interactions, the study into receptors, etc).
This congress will pay attention to the complementary visions which academic researchers and the pharmaceutical industry are able to offer by means of a scientific programme that provides a multidisciplinary perspective of the research done in the medicinal chemistry field.
Lecturers have been selected according to the novelty, relevance and quality of research works criteria, and are specialists of prestigious renown both nationally and internationally. Among them there are professionals who perform their scientific work in the CSIC, Munich University, Miguel Hernández University, Santiago de Compostela University, the pharmaceutical companies GSK or Janssen, among other well-known firms and institutions.
In this way, the Congress is considered an opportunity to promote scientific discussion, debate and the relationships among researchers from the various academic and industrial fields with a view to combine efforts to achieve competitive results.
